When you order your Beauty in a Box, we ask about your skin tone so we can pick products that truly complement you. But what exactly is skin tone — and how do you describe yours? Let's break it down!
Skin Tone vs. Undertone
Your skin tone is the surface color of your skin — how light or deep it appears. Your undertone is the subtle hue beneath the surface that stays consistent regardless of sun exposure. Both matter when choosing beauty products!
Finding Your Skin Tone
Skin tones generally fall into these ranges:
- Fair/Light – Very light skin that may burn easily in the sun
- Light/Medium – Light skin with a bit more color, tans gradually
- Medium/Tan – Olive or golden tones, tans easily
- Deep/Dark – Rich, deep skin tones with beautiful warmth
Finding Your Undertone
Try these simple tricks to find your undertone:
The Vein Test
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in natural light. Blue or purple veins = cool undertone. Green veins = warm undertone. Both = neutral undertone.
The White Paper Test
Hold a plain white piece of paper next to your bare face. If your skin looks pink or rosy, you're cool-toned. If it looks yellow or peachy, you're warm-toned. If it looks grey or ashy, you may be neutral.
Why It Matters for Your Beauty Box
Knowing your skin tone and undertone helps us choose the right foundation shades, blushes, highlighters, and skincare products that will make you glow. When you order, just describe your skin tone in your own words — we'll take it from there!
